LADIES FIRST is an international non-profit organization founded on 17 September 2019 by a group of women committed to creating a world where every woman and child can live with dignity, equality, safety, and opportunity.
What began as a local initiative in Burundi has grown into a regional movement operating across Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Africa. Through our work, we address some of the most pressing challenges affecting vulnerable communities, including hunger, food insecurity, displacement, gender-based discrimination, lack of economic opportunities, and barriers to education and self-reliance.
We believe that sustainable change begins when women and communities are empowered to become active participants in shaping their own future.
Our Vision
We envision an Africa where all women and children live free from hunger, poverty, discrimination, violence, and social exclusion.
We strive for a future where women are economically independent, educated, empowered to participate in community development, protected in their fundamental rights, and able to live freely and safely regardless of their background, social status, ethnicity, religion, or gender expression.
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower disadvantaged women, children, and vulnerable communities through food security initiatives, humanitarian assistance, skills development, human rights advocacy, social inclusion, and sustainable community-led solutions.
We work to strengthen resilience, protect dignity, and create opportunities that enable individuals and communities to build sustainable livelihoods and improve their quality of life.
